Since the summit pyramid is completely open and without protection, strong winds are to be expected. With a bit of luck, especially in July and August, you can climb the summit completely without contact with snow and ice.
The ascent route is technically easy and does not require special skills. A solid basic condition and surefootedness are important. In some places it may be necessary to reach into the rock. It may be necessary to cross an old snow field. Right at the start it is recommended to put on gaiters.
From an altitude of 5,100 m you will feel the first sulphur vapours and it will become clear that you are travelling along a volcano. The mountain is no longer active, but you can still feel its breath. After approx. 6-7 hours you will then stand on the highest point of the Damavand volcano and enjoy a magnificent panoramic view.
On a clear day you can even see as far as Tehran or the Caspian Sea. One also sees the top of the 4. 850 m high Alamkouh protruding on the horizon. Who still has power reserves can, after consultation with the mountain guide, walk around the crater (caldera) (walking time approx. 45 minutes).
