Zagros trek , 7-Day Trek into the Zagros Nomadic lands

Bakhtiari People

There are different nomadic groups in Iran that one of the most famous of which is the Bakhtiari nomads, who constitute the majority of Iranian nomads, and on this adventurous Iran trip, we will cross a part of the Zagros, which is the home of the Bakhtiari people.

The Bakhtiari people live in the central and southern part of the Zagros mountain range. They move from lower altitudes to a high mountain from early spring to mid-autumn with their families and sheep.

The Bakhtiari nomads belong to the Chaharmahal province, which is mainly in the ZardKouh mountain range and carry out their seasonal movement or migration.

This group has different customs, dialects, and clothing from other groups.

The mission of Zagros trek

In brief ,  the mission of Zagros trek trip/hike is to experience nomadic life, learn their customs, and their way of life by walking in their tents in the heights and slopes of the Zagros mountain range.

for example you will see how women work hard and how children also participate in their work.

This Iran adventure hiking tour is suitable for those who like to hike in a remote area that is not found in any guidebook, blog or website.

As well as on our trip we will visit different nomadic villages and  their simple lifestyle also see their local clothes and possible to taste their food and hang out with them during the night as well as listening to their stories.

These will be part of our experiences on this trip. As we traverse the breathtaking landscapes, you will have the chance to capture stunning photographs of the rugged terrain and the vibrant culture that thrives in these remote areas. Engage in traditional activities such as weaving and herding, and gain insights into the rich heritage of the Bakhtiari people.

Zagros trek , A long Trek into the Zagros Nomadic lands Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Drive to Zardkuh mountains

Firstly our agent will pick you up from your hotel in Isfahan in the morning then from there you will have a long journey to the village which will take about 5 hours (300 km).
afterward we enter a dirt road to reach the village. furthermore on this day we will drive a winding mountain road through the heights of the Zagros Mountains and on the way we will pass through many nomadic areas in the mountains. Finally in the afternoon we will reach the village and stay in very basic nomadic houses.
 

Day 2: Hiking alongside river

From the village, we begin our hike today by descending to the end of the valley and from there there is a river path towards the nomadic region of Zardkouh which brings us to the first camp. Finally we set up our tents near the nomadic tents and families. We stay one night in the tent. (B, L, D)
 

Day 3: Crossing rivers through canyons

Today’s hike is shorter than yesterday, but we have to cross many rivers and sometimes walk along the bottom of valleys and into rivers.
Continuing the path, we will reach another interesting village with a special architecture.
Upon arrival, we will set up camp in the courtyard of one of the local houses and after a short rest at the camp, we will have a walking tour of the village before sunset. We will have dinner at the camp and spend the night in a tent. (B, L, D)
 

Day 4: Hiking via the forest

The beginning of the trek is on a dirt road and from there we will take a detour through a forest. finally At the end of the day we will reach a village and lay down at the base of a huge rock in very low altitude where there is an  access to the river on this night again.
Further more we will make our own camp again and also will be the guests of the locals in their houses for dinner.
After having dinner and socializing we will sleep in our own tents. (B, L ,D)
 

Day 5: Hike through a dirt road

Today’s hike is mainly on a dirt road. We will cross the village and find nomad’s tents after village and spend our last night in camp there. Dinner will be prepared in the camp and we will have an amazing night with locals in our place. Overnight stay in the tent. (B, L, D)
 

Day 6: Passing high passes to the last village- drive to a town

Today is our last day of hiking. We will stay in the village until late afternoon and explore, and after a short break we will take an hour and a half dirt road to a town where there is a nice hotel, where we will stay the night, where we will shower after a week, and also have dinner in the hotel restaurant. Day 7: Drive back to Esfahan

Today we will wake up late and we have breakfast in the restaurant of the hotel. Then our vehicles pick us up and we will drive to Esfahan and you will be there by lunch time and  finally the tour will unfortunately come to an end..
